Mega Cat Studios would like you to meat… I mean “meet” their brand new spooky NES game The Meating, just in time for Halloween!
If you give the Mega Cat Studios website a quick browse, you will find that they have actually been releasing games for the Nintendo home console for a while now.
They were the publishers behind one of the most well known NES titles of recent times, Project Blue, which also came out on the Nintendo Switch just a few weeks ago.
So, if you are a fan of physical games for retro consoles, then this is going to be a great day for you to discover The Meating and the awesome library from Mad Cat Studios.
The Meating
The Meating is looking like a pretty incredible new puzzle platforming experience in 2023, quite unlike anything we have seen for the Nintendo home console.
It appears to have shades of Castlevania, Super Mario Bros. 2, Gargoyle’s Quest II, and little bits of many of the best NES games.
The game aims to deliver over 40 puzzle-platformer levels including boss battles. And you can unlock a bunch of really cool abilities and powers to offer many different ways to slice this piece of meat.
As someone who has worked on a retro video game for the past three years and is still in the middle of the physical release (The Mayor of Sanctuary), I can tell you that there is an obvious high level of attention put into the branding, promotional materials, character development, and the actual game production for The Meating.
Even just the consistent branding and meat puns shows an awareness of identity. And they have a sense of humor about the whole thing.
This is looking like one of the most well done NES titles in recent years, and we are happy to let our readers know about this exciting release.
Purchasing Information
The Meating has just launched a Kickstarter campaign as of today – October 27th, 2023.
Like many contemporary retro releases, the creators have turned to the community for support to make the physical release of this game become a reality.
So with the help of awesome retro fans like you, this game can reach its target to be able to produce physical editions and help with the final production as well.
The Kickstarter campaign offers a variety of options for early backers, which include ways to get the digital and physical game upon release.
There is a planned NES digital and physical cartridge, and a Nintendo Switch digital release as well. So, even if you do not still have an NES at home, you can play the game on a modern Nintendo console or on any emulation handheld.
The Kickstarter campaign launched just in time for Halloween. Obviously, you won’t be able to play the game right now, but you can still show The Meating some love in the spirit of the holiday!
