It’s almost time to pig-out on a PS1 classic thanks to the upcoming Hogs of War Lardcore Kickstarter!
The long-awaited remaster of classic PS1 title Hogs of War will receive an official Kickstarter campaign that begins on Tuesday 17th October at 16:00 BST and will run for one month, finishing on Thursday 16th November at 21:00 GMT.
Developer Urbanscan will provide weekly ‘War Report’ via it’s social media channels and detail the Kickstarter campaign’s progress and achievements.
Urbanscan hope to raise £150,000 to achieve their initial funding goal for Hogs of War Lardcore. This target will enable the developer to bring the game ‘to a basic level of completion’.
Stretch (Goal) Your Ham Strings
Two stretch goals for Hogs of War Lardcore will include porting the game to PC and implementing online network play for the game on console. The Kickstarter campaign launch will reveal the full breakdown of stretch goals for the project.
A brief preview of the stretch goals included features such as new difficulty setting and campaign rebalancing, new cheat codes and the inclusion of colourblind settings.
The stretch goals list has been curated from feedback from the Hogs of War community. Urbanscan will assess the financial viability of each goal before they become official targets.
Boar-ed To Tiers
There will be a total of thirteen unique pledge tiers when the Hogs of War Lardcore Kickstarter launches. Each tier will contain physical and digital rewards for backers of the bacon-based battle game although it’s expected the physical rewards will only be available on higher priced tiers due to production costs.
Exclusive weapon skins and character costumes are some of the rewards for Kickstarter investors although more rewards will be revealed at a later date.
Pig-let’s Reminisce
The original Hogs of War launched on PlayStation and PC back in 2000 and reimagined First World War era combat as fought by anthropomorphic pigs. The 3D turn-based gameplay featured madcap weaponry that would be familiar to fans of the Worms series.
Perhaps the greatest asset to Hogs of War was the inclusion of the vocal talents of late British comedy legend Rik Mayall. Mayall brought his impeccable comedic timing to the original game in cutscenes and in humorous quips during gameplay. Thankfully, Mayall’s original vocal performance will return with Hogs of War Lardcore.
Gamers of a certain age fondly remember the original Hogs of War. The game even made an appearance on our 10 Most Underrated PS1 Games list.
