8BitDo Reveals Gamecube Controller Mod Kit & Wireless Receiver

Controller kits have become a very popular modification over the years for retro gamers, while it started many years ago as a pretty strenuous task to do for the average consumer, now thanks to technology it has become as easy as building LEGO.

Which is great for fools like me with Shrek hands because it have broken countless controllers and consoles attempting to modify them in the past, but good guys like 8BitDo understands that there’s some idiots out there that need a simple process.

8BitDo already has a controller mod kit for the Nintendo 64, which went down well with the community, but many asked for a mod Kit for the Gamecube, because let’s face it, it’s one of the best retro consoles of all time, and everyone loves this fugly controller.

So 8BitDo has answered our prayers and have finally revealed the Gamecube Controller Mod Kit and a Bluetooth Receiver.

The Controller Mod kit is a simple DIY kit, it’s as easy as removing the shell and old parts, inserting the PCB connecting some bits and wallah, you can now connect your rusty, dirty Gamecube Controller to your Nintendo Switch and Android handheld consoles (and any Android device for that matter).

This mod kit adds some nice upgrades, such as a hall-effect joystick, new triggers and a 300MAH battery pack which can apparently last up to 6 hours on a single charge.

The bluetooth receiver is a completely different product but partners well with the Gamecube Mod Kit. This connects directly into your Gamecube’s controller port at the front.

This then adds a modern piece of technology to your retro console allowing most bluetooth controllers to connect to it including:

  • 8BitDo Ultimate Bluetooth, Ultimate 2.4G, Ultimate C Bluetooth, Ultimate 2C Wireless, and Ultimate 3-mode for Xbox Controllers
  • 8BitDo Pro 2, SN30 Pro+, SN30 Pro, SN30 Pro for Android, Lite 2, Lite SE, Lite, M30, Micro, and NEOGEO Controllers; Arcade Stick v3; NGC Mod Kit
  • DualShock 4, DualSense, and DualSense Edge Controllers
  • Xbox One, Series, Elite Series 2, Elite Series 2 – Core, and Adaptive Controllers
  • Switch Pro and Wii U Pro Controllers

It’s a neat accessory and even supports firmware updates and controller vibrations too, alongside 8BITDO stating that it’s “virtually lag-free” which is what we want from a receiver like this. These are two great announcements from 8BitDo and we’re hoping to get one into review, so be sure to come back soon for our full opinions!
