TimeSplitters Looks Set For PS5 Release As Part Of PS2 Classics Line-Up

If there’s one thing that Nintendo has nailed in recent years, it’s the creation and subsequent building of it’s Nintendo Switch Online subscription programme, offering a place for users to access their favourite titles from yesteryear and expanding the catalogue with new arrivals all the time. They’ve realised the need to keep old games alive and listened to the people who use their systems who want to play nostalgic games on modern consoles without having to use upscalers or HDMI converters, and they’ve nailed it with games like Turok and Perfect Dark appearing on the system.

Now, Sony is going down the same route by offering access to titles from the best-selling console of all time, the PlayStation 2. I mean, I’m surprised it’s talent this long in all honesty – if I worked at Sony, I would have been pushing for this from day one of the PS5’s release and getting all of the games up there to remind Nintendo who’s still at the top of the sales podium!

We’ve already had Tomb Raider, Sly Cooper, and Star Wars joining the ranks, and now, according to Gematsu, it looks as though TimeSplitters is next up on the list. The game has received a rating for PS5 and PS4 in Taiwan, and as we know the studio behind the game, Free Radical Design, has closed down and there aren’t any plans for a new title release, then we can be pretty sure that the original is heading to Sony’s current machines very soon.

It’s very sad that Free Radical doesn’t exist anymore; the loss of such a prominent gaming studio hit the gaming world hard, and while we’re not going to get a new TimeSplitters game through any of the official channels, a resurgence of the original game will both please PS2 fans and act as a way of paying homage to all the work Free Radical did on such an iconic game.

As of this moment, I can’t comment as to when TimeSplitters landing on PS5 is likely to happen, but if the news is correct, then I would bet my bottom dollar that it will appear in next month’s PS2 classic collection drop.
