Online Multiplayer For Nintendo DS Games Is Coming To Delta

Pokemon White on the DS Delta

One app has dominated the App Store since emulators arrived on iPhone – Delta. It’s revolutionised train journeys, office meetings, waiting in the doctor’s surgery, and essentially how all iPhone users use their phones. I mean, Android users have had all the fun for years, so it’s about time we got a piece of the pie and a chance to play our favourite retro games on the go. Riley Testut has been working hard to bring his creation to iPhone for years now, and as the first emulator to gain traction on the App Store, he’s had the entire retro gaming world closely following his progress and waiting on tenterhooks for updates.

Well, an update has arrived and it’s something that all the DS fans will be incredibly excited about – online multiplayer support is on its way for Nintendo DS games, with players being able to take to games like Mario Kart DS on multiple devices and race each other just like the good old days.

Speaking with our friends over at The Verge, Riley has explained that the new multiplayer service is based on the online multiplayer functions for melonDS and connects up to 3rd-party servers. This means that every Delta user on the planet can connect with another user to play classic DS multiplayer games just like we did before the servers closed in 2014.

There’s no official release date set for the Delta DS online multiplayer rollout yet, but we do know that the service will be limited to just DS games with Nintendo WFC support for the time being. Delta Patreon subscribers will get to test a beta before the rest of the public, so check it out if you can’t wait till the finished product drops! We do know that the connection will be free for everyone just like Delta itself, and we’re excited for Riley to open up the door to some of the games from our teenage years, including trading and battling Pokémon – I think our Switches are about to get a lot less use once this drops!
