Sinclair ZX Spectrum
The ZX Spectrum was an 8-bit home computer made by Sinclair Research. It released in April of 1982 and was the best selling home computer system in the UK.
At the time of its release, the Spectrum sold for £125. Which would be about £245 or $300usd today.
During its ten year life cycle, the popular home computer sold over 5 million units.
This was the first home computer from Sinclair to make use of a color monitor. Hence the name and the focus on the color spectrum on the main computer unit.
And one of the main uses for the ZX Spectrum home computer was for developing and playing video games. It is often credited as one of the major contributors to early video game history.
In fact, in August of 1982 (just 4 months after its launch), the Spectrum came bundled with the Horizons: Software Starter Pack which contained eight programs. Five of which were games.
While the ZX Spectrum was fairly basic as a home computer, its relatively low price and its unique design surely contributed to its great success.
And its legacy has remained to this day.
Clive Sinclair
It is worth mentioning that the Sinclair Research company was created by a man named Clive Sinclair, who remained an active inventor throughout his 81 year life.
His many creations include the first slimline pocket calculator, the ZX Spectrum, a battery powered vehicle, a flatscreen CRT, and the A-Bike.
Clive Sinclair always tried to bring change and improvement to our world through his extensive research and development.
And he is given major credit as somebody who helped contribute to the video game market due to his creation of the ZX Spectrum.
So many of us owe a lot to Clive Sinclair and his efforts. Thank you Clive!
