I've always been fascinated by people who can work with wood; my artistic skills are limited to music and writing, and I'm afraid my patience for anything that takes a steady hand where one wrong move means you've got to ditch all your hard work to start over again is very little. It's why this wooden SNES shell has caught my eye; it's perfectly made and a true work of art... and it's all fully functional too!
Can you imagine sitting down and slotting Super Mario Kart into this bad boy and playing a few rounds? It's the ultimate feature piece for next to your TV, a stylish console that you might find in the depths of Country Living magazine as opposed to Nintendo Official Magazine back in the day. It's a product made by Matsuo Board, a pedal board company operating out of Nagasaki, Japan. They aren't currently taking on custom orders, but they do periodically list items on Yahoo Auctions with their next one popping up at the end of April, which could mean any day now!
The SNES shell itself has been described as being made from 'precious woods', which stands to reason as the grains look incredible. Watching the process of how it's made in the video above is incredibly mesmerizing, including all of the hand saw and tool techniques used to put it together. I have some friends who make guitars from rare woods who are actually looking into making a NES guitar pretty soon - maybe I should put them in contact with Matsuo Board to collaborate!

What do you think of this custom SNES? Would you show it off proudly in your home, or would you rather have that classic grey plastic that we all know and love? This wooden console would definitely blend in more next to your TV if you had a partner or housemate who was 'getting sick of all the nerd stuff lying about'... and I say that from experience!
