You've probably all got new calendars for Christmas this year, right? Maybe you're looking at a blank diary right now and wondering what to put in first to make you seem like you've got a lot of things to look forward to in 2026. Or maybe, you just wake up thinking about Pikachu every single day and want to make sure you don't forget a day that's all about him.
What is the point in knowing when your Cousin Kevin's birthday is or how many times other countries have non-working days when you're sat in the office? The only thing you need to know is the date when you can come to work dressed like a Pokémon and not get thrown into the HR office for it.
Here's all of the information you need to know about when Pokémon Day is, what it is, and what I think we might hear about when the big day comes.
What Is Pokèmon Day?

As you might imagine from the name, or the notion of dedicating a whole day to a franchise, Pokèmon Day is a chance for everyone involved in the Pocket Monster world to celebrate the global phenomenon together.
I bet when Pokèmon Red and Green first dropped in Japan that none of us ever dreamed we’d be having a full day dedicated to Charmander, Bulbasaur and the gang.
I think you’d be hard-pushed to find anyone in the world that doesn’t know who Pikachu or Squirtle are, however, and Pokemon has definitely become a worldwide movement that isn’t going anywhere any time soon!
And, in true Pokèmon Company style, Pokèmon Day occurs every year on the anniversary of Red and Green being available for purchase.
I think we can all agree that their continuity game is strong!
Pokemon Day isn’t just a day for us to all reminisce about the first time that we saw Pikachu on screen or to get together, however. Like the Nintendo Direct livestream announcements that we all get excited about in the hope of getting some tasty news products, Pokèmon Day also encompasses information about new releases and is usually the date of the Pokemon Presents presentation.
When Is The Next Pokèmon Day, & What Can We Expect To Hear About?

The next Pokémon Day is set to take place on February 27th, 2026.
Pokémon Day returns at the end of February and, if the last few celebrations are anything to go by, we should be getting some exciting information about new releases.
Let's start with something I'm very certain we'll be seeing, and that's more gameplay from Pokémon Pokopia. With a release date set for March 5th 2026, there's bound to be more hype around the game to get people grabbing their credit cards and heading to the Nintendo online store.
I'm hoping we might see some actual information about Pokémon Wind and Waves too, and discover more concrete information about the upcoming games rather then relying on leaks which, as we know from past experience, can either be right on the money or miles away from the actual truth.
I think there will be some more new features for Pokémon Legends: Z-A announced to keep fans entertained, possibly for a little later on in 2026. The last DLC release was on December 10th, 2025, so I think it's highly likely. I also think we might hear a little bit more about the Pokémon and Aardman collaboration that I wrote about back in December 2024. Pokémon Takes: The Misadventures Of Sirfetch'd & Pichu is set to arrive in 2027, and I think The Pokémon Company will want to tell us more about it to keep it in our minds (they're good at keeping us hooked!). There might be some more Pokémon Concierge news too; I'm keeping everything crossed for that!
I think we can be sure that we'll see some more information related to the Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket app, as well as the upcoming Pokémon Champions for Switch and Mobile. And as always, I'm going to make a wish on February 26th that Nintendo announce Pokémon Red, Blue, and Yellow for Nintendo Switch Online. I know it will probably never happen, but a guy can dream!
As always, Retro Dodo will be watching all of the announcements on February 27th, so check back with us to get all of the latest news, releases, and information when the big day comes around!
