1. Final Fantasy VII Remake and Final Fantasy VII (2020)

final fantasy vii remake vinyl soundtrack

The results are in, and Final Fantasy VII Remake and Final Fantasy VII is officially the best video game soundtrack on vinyl!

There’s a reason I’ve spent tonnes of money watching orchestra’s play Final Fantasy tracks live; this soundtrack is unbelievable!

Final Fantasy VII continually scores highly here at Retro Dodo. This game is a PlayStation institution, and the soundtrack to the stunning visuals never fails to give me shivers.

Complete with a themed sleeve and vinyls bearing graphics from the game, this is the ultimate gift for any Final Fantasy fan. Buy it for a loved one, or grab it for yourself!

2. Hang On To Your Hat (Music From Super Mario 64) (2021)

One of the jazziest video game soundtracks on vinyl has to be Hang On To Your Hat (Music From Super Mario 64). I’ve been listening to this while I’ve been preparing this article, and I’ve got goosebumps.

And no, that’s not because it’s cold in here.

If you love big band music or go crazy for jazz in general, then this recreation of classic Super Mario 64 tunes will have you bopping all over your living room.

Honestly, hearing the Bob-omb Battlefield soundtrack jazzed up blew me away. This is one of those records that you’ll play again and again on repeat.

Just remember to try some of the others in this list too, alright?

Pixel Crib has nicely given Retro Dodo 10% off their vinyls using the code “RETRO DODO”.

3. Hero Of Time: Music From The Legend Of Zelda Ocarina Of Time (2017)

Hero Of Time: Music From The Legend Of Zelda Ocarina Of Time takes the third spot in this list of the best gaming soundtracks of all time.

How many of you want to be the Hero of Time? This officially licensed, 60 minute orchestral masterpiece will definitely make you feel like Link as he moves through time to thwart Ganondorf.

This N64 classic has also been recorded by a 64 piece orchestra too… how perfect is that.

The Slovak National Symphony Orchestra and master video game composer Eric Buchholz have created a masterpiece here, make no mistake.

If you live and breathe the best Zelda games, then get this coloured vinyl set in your life!

4. Ghost Of Tsushima (Music From The Video Game) (2022)

Take a look at that! I’ve heard the soundtrack to this incredible game on many occasions, but I haven’t yet played these Ghost Of Tsushima (Music From The Video Game) clear splattered vinyls.

The whole package is unreal; if you’re still playing GoT: Legends manically or just can’t stop playing the main story mode over and over, then this set is for you.

With over 100 minutes of original music composed specifically for the game by Ilan Eshkeri and Shigeru Umebayashi, you can relax back as the music guides you through your favourite game.

And, check out that custom artwork by the one and only Takashi Okazaki. Manga fans; why haven’t you bought this yet!

5. Johto Legends: Music From Poke (2021)

Gotta spin ’em all should be Ash’s catchphrase once he hits 30. If you love Pokemon as much as we do in the Retro Dodo office, then Johto Legends: Music From Poke will certainly put a smile on your face.

Fans of Gold and Silver will be immediately transported back to the very first moment they played the GBC games.

This one hour orchestral arrangement brings back so much nostalgia that I’ve had to pick up my Gameboy 3 times while writing this article already!

It’s amazing to just be able to sit back and reminisce about being in certain areas of Johto, the seven musicians bringing life to the score transporting you right into the heart of the action.

Plus, look at that coloured LP!

Pixel Crib has nicely given Retro Dodo 10% off their vinyls using the code “RETRO DODO”.

6. DOOM: Original Game Soundtrack (2018)

The DOOM: Original Game Soundtrack takes the 6th spot in our ultimate video game soundtracks on vinyl compendium.

This cover art comes right from the iconic game case art too. Check out Doom Guy just batting back demons on the front there!

31 tracks, 4 sides, 2 LPs. It’s definitely value for money alright, especially as this soundtrack bagged the ‘Best Music’ award at the 2016 Game Awards!

Mick Gordon both composed and sequenced the music for this game. If you’ve played DOOM, then you’ll know just how innovative and powerful the music was too.

Nothing says ‘demons are in my house’ like playing this LP.

7. Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake Original Soundtrack (2021)

metal gear 2 vinyl soundtrack

I think it’s only right to have two copies of Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake Original Soundtrack; one to play in rotation, and one to display in a frame on your wall.

Just look at those pink LPs, that’s the stuff dreams are made of right there.

Again, the artwork on this cover jacket is superb, and with four sides to listen to, you’re in for a real MGS treat!

Solid Snake’s retirement skirmishes never sounded so good. That’s probably because the whole soundtrack was heavily 80’s inspired.

I’m not talking Duran Duran or David Sylvian, more 80s horror synth sounds and action films like The Running Man.

If you love Hideo Kojima’s work more than your first-born, then get this vinyl in your life.

8. Mortal Kombat I and II – Music From The Arcade Game Soundtracks

mortal kombat vinyl soundtrack

If you play some of the best 2D fighting games of all time, then you’ll be familiar with Mortal Kombat, it’s so good they made movies about it… but even better, they made vinyls!

Made by Enjoy The Ride Records, it fetures compositions from both Mortal Kombat and Mortal Kombat II, it’s also composed by Dan Forden, they legend who shouts “Toasty!” in Mortal Kombat II.

It features a coloured and semi transparent vinyl with the logo on it ad housed in a 400gsm gatefold jacket featuring iconic images from the first two games.

There’s something special about this one, and I have it in my personal collection so you know it’s good!

Pixel Crib has nicely given Retro Dodo 10% off their vinyls using the code “RETRO DODO”.

9. Gears Of War 2 Original Soundtrack (2022)

Two striking red vinyls and some amazing cover art; the Gears Of War 2 Original Soundtrack really isn’t messing around!

Haunting vocals, atmospheric strings, the power of the orchestra holding you in its grasp; this is an LP that will move you to your core.

The game itself was special, but the music added so much tension and effortlessly pulled you into the game world.

Listen back to the tremendous works of Steve Jablonsky, performed by the The Skywalker Chorus and Skywalker Symphony Orchestra!

10. Zelda & Chill II (2022)

Zelda & Chill II takes the 10th spot in this list of the best video game soundtracks on vinyl. Again, I’ve had this album on while I’ve been prepping for this article, and it’s so chilled it hurts.

Ok, this could well be the most hipster album on this list, but damn is it good.

Mixing lo-fi beats, cool synths, and the essence of Zelda, this relaxed LP shows off some of the key tunes from Breath of the Wild, The Wind Waker, and more.

Kick back with Revali’s Theme, Midna’s Lament, or even Fi’s Farewell.

Want to get a friend or partner into Zelda surreptitiously? This is the way to do it!

11. Comix Zone Original Soundtrack

Not only does the cover look feature the iconic game art, but that vinyl looks unbelievable. Imaging that spinning around on your turntable!

Comix Zone was always known for having an upbeat, action-packed soundtrack. Now, you can listen to the tunes that kept you pumped up while drawing your own comics.

Removing yourself from a screen and allowing these tunes to wash over you really is special too; you pick up so many more nuances when you’re not button mashing and watching Sketch hop from frame to frame.

12. Sonic Mania Soundtrack (2022)

So we’re only two vinyls into this best video game soundtracks on vinyl article, and already you’re noticing that cover art plays a huge part in the whole vinyl picking process. The Sonic Mania Soundtrack looks like a piece of art when opened up!

Tee Lopes’ work sounds beautiful on this coloured LP. And, although it doesn’t spin as fast as Sonic, it has a deep, rich sound to it that will ring out through your house perfectly.

Eggman Boss Theme, Mirage Saloon Act 1; these are tunes that we need to usher in Sonic’s 26th Anniversary and many more to come.

If you’re a Sonic fan, then this beauty needs to be in your collection ASAP.

13. Castlevania III: Dracula’s Curse (2017)

As far as vinyl cover art goes, Castlevania III: Dracula’s Curse is a cracking choice to kickstart this list. I mean, just look at it!

This is one I’m keeping out on show and not filing next to the Biffy Clyro vinyls, that’s for sure!

This 2 LP album captures the heart and soul of the Famicom/NES classic, Dracula’s Curse. Revisit all the tunes that played in the background while you took Trevor Belmont on a mission to destroy the Prince of Darkness.

Not Ozzy Osbourne, Dracula!

The Japanese and the NTSC versions of the game have different soundtracks due to the difference in sound chips in the game carts.

Luckily for us, you can hear tracks from both in this double album!
