ANBERNIC’s workers have a tendency to “leak” videos and images of handhelds before they release, and although I do enjoy seeing these concepts come to fruition, I do believe it’s a part of their recent marketing strategy, and so it should because… now we’re writing about it.
I first came across this device when Twitter user GameBoyJuntaro shared the video of what is being called the RG355XX SP… I know, I think it needs more letters too.
Clamshells are becoming far more popular in the retro handheld space recently with the Retroid Pocket Flip and the upcoming Miyoo Flip which has many of us intrigued.
In ANBERNIC fashion they want to replicate these devices as quickly as possible in order to take a piece of the pie, and with that comes the creation of this new clamshell handheld which has leaked today.

From the video you can see that device looks closed to finished, using a transparent shell that’s close to identical compared to the original Game Boy Advance SP. It looks as if they have have even installed their own OS already too which makes me believe this will launch sooner than imagined.
Usually the leaks happen when the shells have been produced, but not this time, it’s a fully fledged working handheld from what the video shows.
Once the handheld is closes ANBERNIC has embedded a unique LED symbol on the top, likely to give it a different look to upcoming competitors. As of now, I am not quite sure what the logo is meant to mean, but it could be a generic logo that has been used and may not mean anything.
Nonetheless, I like anything that glows so it’s a thumbs up for me. The video doesn’t showcase much, so there’s no proper look at the sides, although an image leaked many months ago of the side and it’s again, almost identical to the GBA SP, down to the on/of switch and cube like shoulder buttons.
Due to it sticking with the RG35XX name, it’s like to have the same specs as the RG35XX 2024 and the RG35XX Plus, this means it could have:
- 1.5Ghz H700 Quad-Core ARM Cortext-A52
- Dual-Core G31 MP2 CPU
- 1GB RAM
- 3.5” IPS Display (640 x 480)
- 3300 MAH Battery
- 5G Wifi & Bluetooth
- HDMI Out
With these specs it’s likely you can emulator retro games up to and including PS1 games.
Again, I want to mention none of this is official yet so please take this information with a grain of salt. I personally believe this is real, and it’s a great move from ANBERNIC because everyone loves a clamshell device, especially if it’s priced between $50 – $70… wink wink ANBERNIC, that will be the sweet spot!
