Trimui Brick Retro Handheld Stealth Dropped & Is Now Up For Pre-Order

Trimui are back again with another great looking device, their most recent being teh TRIMUI Smart Pro that released earlier in the year, and although it had a rough launch they have kept updating it and tinkering with firmware that has turned it into a pretty decent device.

However, they are now producing something a little smaller, in a vertical format to please fans who like something more portable. It’s called the Trimui Brick and it’s now available to pre-order from MechDIY (a trusted outlet we have used in the past).

The Trimui Brick looks similar to the Miyoo Mini Plus in many ways, but with some nice modern touches such as the “RGB Atmosphere Lighting” on the back, alongside the start/select buttons being semi-transparent to show the unique LED colours. Hopefully the brightness can be controlled to not cause any distraction when gaming, but only time will tell!

From what I can see it’s a great looking device, TRIMUI has shown that they can design a handheld in a unique way, even when the handheld market is over-saturated with choice. They’ve also shown that they can build high quality firmware and a pleasant user experience for their customers too, something that other handheld manufactures in the industry lacks.

The market certainly doesn’t need a device like this right now, and I believe TRUMUI will struggle to sell large quantities of this but I do believe that it’s likely going to be a great product to compete with the miniature vertical handhelds.

The specifications will likely allow this to emulate everything up to and including Playstation 1 games, alongside the ability to “WiFi double player battles”.

One feature I noticed that is somewhat unique is the customisable metal backplate. Trimui states: “customize your console with a CNC metal backplate that can be engraved. Detachable shoulder buttons let you create a unique look”.

Does that mean we personally have to engrave it? Does this mean it’s an added option to upgrade to a CNC metal backplate? The original backplate is plastic? It’s all a bit confusing at this moment in time and nowhere on MechDIY’s listing is there a way to “upgrade” to a metal shell.

There’s also detachable shoulder buttons too which makes me believe that there’s no way to upgrade, instead TRIMUI wants users to be able to remove and customise the backshell and shoulder buttons as they wish, opening up a secondary market for modders to customise and sell new parts, which I think is a great idea.

As of now that’s all the information I have, pre-orders are now live at MechDiy and shipping begins on October 20th. The product retails for $79.99.
