Have you just been searching for a new DSLR to take some pictures on so you can save your memories digitally? Yes, you have? Well, stop what you're doing right now, because a new tool has arrived on the scene that allows you to transfer photos straight from your Game Boy Camera to any smartphone using a USB-C cable.
Yes, you read that right: a cable that removes the need to print your GB Camera photos using the GB Printer and allows you to save them straight to your phone without the need for any other software or buying expensive thermopaper.

According to our friends over at Ukrainian-based, the creator of this device is Ukrainian-based Anton Artemov. Anton has removed the need for ROM dumpers or emulation here by creating a tool that works directly with your phone and the Game Boy Camera. It saves images as PNGs to your phone, leaving you to mess around with the colours and edit them as you wish afterwards. Just don't put any sepia filters on anything, alright?

Writing on GitHub, Anton says that his Game Boy Camera Adapter is based on the pico-gb printer repo. Essentially, a Raspberry Pi Pico is pretending to be a USB Ethernet device, and Anton has a guide that you can follow if you want to build your own. You'll just need a Raspberry Pi, half a Game Boy Link Cable, and a four-channel 5V to 3.3V shifter.
I would like to see Anton selling these kits as a single unit for people who aren't confident messing around with Raspberry Pi units and fusing parts together - it would be a game-changer for the Game Boy Camera community. I could just see Poca creator Jonathan Traynor using one of these on his travels, and it would help to bring one of my favourite Game Boy accessories back to popularity once more. Imagine seeing the younger generation pulling out a Game Boy Camera instead of a smartphone to take a selfie with - it would be like going back in time!
