Not all games last forever. I know we say that some games are lifelong classics, but the truth is that after you've completed a game a handful of times, you very often don't go back to it again. I loved Super Mario Land for the Game Boy and played it till I could do the levels with my eyes closed, but I've closed that chapter in my life now because I know what to expect. There's nothing new there, but if there were new, randomly generated levels to experience, I'd be glued to it more than I was Dragonyhm.
Issun knows what I'm talking about; they felt the same way with Worms for the Game Boy, failing to find joy in the 24 levels after a while. They knew the terrain, and they knew the general gist of how to win despite the worms being placed randomly. It just didn't have that same 'come back and play' feel that it did when it first released.
But instead of adding it to the memories pile and no longer playing, Issun has built a mod that creates procedurally generated levels... around 4.2 billion of them, in fact.
That's upped the game's 'replayability' significantly, if you ask me, plus there's an option to view and choose a different level if the one you're currently on doesn't feel exciting enough. You can write down the number of interesting levels to replay again and again, and then just move on when you get bored.
There are other improvements to the game too, including wind and being able to toggle it on or off, skippable title screens, and weapon drop bug fixes, as well as a whole bunch of upgrades that Issun included on his previous ROM hack 'Worms Plus'.
