Demakes are one of my favourite things about the Retro Gaming scene. The way that people reimagine newer games for older systems always makes me smile, and it helps to keep the handhelds and consoles of yesteryear alive and interesting for newer generations of gamers.
One thing that caught my eye recently thanks to a helpful message on instagram (thank's Cameron!) is a new tool that converts any GBA game into a GBC title automatically. I know it sounds like witchcraft, but it's actually being worked on and tested by Reddit user Admirable-Battle2573.
In essence, the 'automatic demake' tool lowers the quality of the graphics of GBA games as well as the tile count, and alters the music so that they can run on the Game Boy Color. All of the conversion tools used have been created by Admirable-Battle2573, with the idea behind the tool meaning that they can have a much bigger library of games for their (and our) favourite Nintendo handheld.
Would you play GBA games on a GBC? Pokémon Sapphire on GBC.

As you can see from the video here, there's still a long way to go, but the idea behind it is very intriguing indeed, especially for those of you who prefer the vertical form factor of the GBC to the horizontal GBA. It would be novel to see games like Pokémon FireRed and even Kao the Kangaroo on the GBC!
Do you think there's a need for such a demake tool, and if so, what games would you convert to work on the GBC? Let us know in the comments below!
