The Secret of Monkey Island continues to draw in fans three-and-a-half decades after its initial release. It holds a story that still draws us in and entices us to play, and for many retro gamers, it provides a sense of comforting nostalgia that instantly provides a sense of calm. It's legendary, and it's not going anywhere any time soon, especially thanks to the hard work of Andreas Larsson who is bringing the game to the C64.

Yes, it's 2026, and The Monkey Island Project is aiming to bring the complete game to the Commodore 64, with all of the scenes lovingly recreated for the iconic console. As you can imagine, it's a mammoth task, and Andreas is hand-drawing all of the backgrounds, characters, and animations so that they'll work on the system. Talk about a passion project, huh!

The 8-bit graphics look amazing so far; taking a 32-bit game and making it look great on an 8-bit console is no mean feat, and while this project is undoubtedly going to take Andreas a long time, I'm looking forward to following his progress and checking this out on the C64 once he's finished!
