Back in November 2025, I covered a brand new 8-bit game console being made in Port-Washington, New York. I don't mean an FPGA console that can play SNES or Genesis games either; I mean a brand new console with its own cartridges and games, and most importantly, original hardware.

Clyde Schaffer wants the world to remember the majesty of 8-bit gaming in a 4K world filled with Teraflops and haptic feedback. His machine has taken the world by storm, with devs and gaming enthusiasts all over the world flocking to the GameTank and writing new games for the system's online emulator, preparing for a physical hardware release so they can play on their CRTs just like the old days.

And now, you can get your hands on a physical GameTank! The official Crowd Supply campaign is now open, announced by Clyde in a home video that looks as though it came straight out of an 80s time capsule - the guy knows how to appeal to his audience!

There are two packages currently available for backers. The first and main package is the GameTank Developer Kit, which comes with a physical GameTank console, a controller, and a physical copy of a brand new game, 'Accursed Fiend'. It also comes with a blank cartridge and a cartridge flasher for uploading your own creations or downloading games made by the GameTank community onto physical cartridges to play on the system.

The main bundle is priced at $299, which is around £223 and €257, with free shipping in the US or $12 shipping for international orders.

There's also a 2-pack blank cartridge pack priced at $40 for collecting community titles or working on your own games too.

At the time of writing with the campaign only being open one day, the GameTank is 16% funded, amassing $4,800 of a $30,000 goal. With 41 days still to go, I'm confident that the GameTank will become a reality, and who knows, it could go on to spark a whole new love for 8-bit gaming with modern audiences and younger gamers. Everyone is yearning for retro right now, and Clyde is offering us all an incredible experience in a brand new console that will take us straight back to the Golden Age of Gaming.
