You guys know how much we love ROM hacks and fangames here at Retro Dodo, especially ones that stick to the original values of games we love that might have gone off track or become a little too modern for our liking these days. It's no secret that we love the older Pokémon game format as opposed to the likes of Arceus and ZA, so we tend to look to the Retro Gaming community for games like Pokémon Unbound, Pokémon Lazarus, and now, Pokémon New Frontiers.
This fan game comes to us from SpicyGecko and features 100 Fakemon with new and pre-evolutions to discover. There's a new ranking system for how you progress within the game and a select few ZA Mega Pokémon to choose from in the demo, though SpicyGecko explains that they will all be in the final version of the game.

One of the things from the description of this game that excites me is that there are new signature moves for some of the OG Pokémon like Beedrill and Fearow, with wider movepools for Pokémon in general, giving you more options when you're creating the ultimate team.
You don't need to trade Pokémon that hold items either in New Frontiers; simply holding the item is enough to evolve. SpicyGecko has also changed a couple of the Weakness types up and sped up both the Pokémon Center experience and bike speed.
It's important to remember that New Frontiers is a work-in-progress and is currently in demo form, with gamers being able to play up to the 5th gym and then finding a roadblock. Still, it's all looking good so far, and I'm excited to get more updates on the game's progress and future patches as they arrive!
