We’ve always loved Monkey Ball games here at Retro Dodo, but our Video Editor Rob could well be the biggest fan of the Simian Superstars of all time.
News that the new game in the Sega series ‘Banana Rumble’ is heading exclusively to Switch this July is incredible for fans of the series, though some (Rob again) will be a little sad that they can’t get their hands on the new game on the Steam Deck or other consoles.
Still, it’s a big win for Nintendo, and the new game looks incredible.
Having the ability to play with up to 16 people online in a new multiplayer mode looks like absolute carnage! I thought that Fall Guys was tough to play, but a tonne of monkeys rolling around in balls on thing platforms that are super high up in the sky is going to make me even balder… if that’s even possible.
There are over 200 new levels to tackle and a host of minigames to get stuck into too, as well as new moves like the Spin Dash making an appearance.
Is that in reference to Sonic, do we think? Is the Blue Blur going to be making another Monkey Ball appearance again?
One thing we’re a big fan of is the ‘optional’ motion controls. Yes, I meant to put optional in quotation marks there, as motion controls and Monkey Ball don’t always go well together. Having the ability to have greater control over your character makes for much more relaxing gameplay… or as relaxing as you can get while hurtling towards a shortcut at super-fast speeds with 15 other monkeys on your tail!
The new game releases June 25th, 2024, and you can watch the full announcement trailer in the Partner Showcase video below!
