When you type in the name 'Giles Goddard' and get the result 'I made Star Fox with Shigeru Miyamoto, worked on Super Mario 64, and created 1080 Snowboarding', you know that you're dealing with a legend. Three of my favourite games as a kid, all linked to one guy. Heck, Giles is gaming royalty!
Giles has recently been working on a new game called Wild Blue, which, considering his previous work, is unsurprisingly a spiritual successor of sorts to Star Fox. Replace Fox McCloud with a wolf called Bowie and a whole new set of anthropomorphic animals including a Dinosaur called Thorne, and you've got yourself the newest air protection league on the block!

I played so much Lylat Wars/Star Fox 64 back in the day to know those boxy aiming squares like the back of my hand. The first look at Wild Blue's gameplay which dropped yesterday shows the same kind of camaraderie between Bowie's team that there was with Fox's, including crafts that are similar in design to the Arwings. And yes, they barrel-roll in a way that would make Peppy Hare proud.
Reading the blurb underneath the trailer tells us that 'Wild Blue reimagines the classic on-rail adventures of the '90s. Join Bowie Stray and the Blue Bombers as they soar through the skies on a mission to save the world in this action-packed, nostalgic journey!' Giles knows his audience here, and everyone who ever played Star Fox is going to go nuts for this title.
Weirdly, Wild Blue isn't currently planned for release on Nintendo Switch, which is odd considering Giles' work for Ninty over the years. It's tipped to be releasing for PC and Xbox Series X so far, though I'm hoping that will change nearer to the release date. Speaking of which, there isn't a release date either as of yet, but I've reached out to Giles for some more details, so hopefully I'll be able to update this news article with that info very soon!
