Did you find yourself watching series one of Squid Game and thinking that it would make a great Game Boy game? You might think that's a bit of a niche question, but I think about this on a regular basis about pretty much everything I watch. 64 Bits certainly had the same thought as me, and they've made an 8-bit version of the series for players to download and play on emulators or their DMG via a flash cart.

The demake runs just like early DMG games like Navy Seals and has some incredible cutscenes that manage to capture the likeness of the characters from the show. It's been made fully in GB Studio and is available to download on the 64 Bits Itch.io page alongside an instruction manual that you can print yourself. There's also printable box art and cartridge stickers so you can make it look like a fully licensed product that you bought off a shop shelf.

There are 6 games to play through in the story mode, all with cutscenes and multiple endings. You can also practice games at your leisure too and take a go at the Hard Mode, which, after playing it this afternoon, feels a lot more like a real-life Squid Game would be. There's a secret ending for those who manage to beat hard mode, but I don't think I'll get there any time soon.

Like Dragonyhm, the manual has hints and tips for people who are struggling, so it's worth printing it out and taking a good look at it. While the game is free to download and isn't affiliated with Netflix in any way, you can name your own price if you want to support the project!
