What do you do if you've played Spyro the Dragon over a hundred times and the shine has worn off levels that you now know like the back of your hand? As always, the Retro Gaming community provides, this time with a brand new fan-made level by a new developer named 'Rash'. It's called Spooky Shore, and for a first attempt at a Spyro fan level, it's very impressive.

Spooky Shore is big, make no mistake. It's spooky thanks to the fog over the level and the storyline bringing the ghosts of Rhynocs into the mix, and it very much looks the part of a level that could have jumped straight from the legendary PS1 title we all spent far too many hours on as kids.

According to the project's page on Itch.io, Spyro has found himself in a hauntingly new world thanks to a mix-up with the wrong portal. There are 1,000 gems and 5 dragon eggs to collect on the level, giving Spyro fans a chance to experience some familiar gameplay in a brand new setting in 2026. You can also change Spyro's appearance too which is a neat little addition.

The puddles, cobwebs, eerie-looking houses, and bare trees definitely create an intriguing atmosphere that makes you want to find out more, as do the weird palm trees that look a little like the Peahats from Ocarina of Time, and I for one am very happy to see new Spyro content coming into the world.

Spooky Shore works with a keyboard and mouse and also allows you to play along with a PlayStation controller via DS4Windows or Steam. Head to Itch.io to download it and start playing now!
