If you’re like me and you tend to spend your days listening to lo-fi and chilled out versions of videogame soundtracks, then you’re in luck, as a new album from Funk Fiction has given several classic Sonic tracks a new chilled vibe and released them to streaming services.
‘Sonic & Chill’ is a 14-track album from LA based composer Funk Fiction a.k.a Pejman Roozbeh, and features relaxed beats along some recognisable melodies from Sonic the Hedgehog’s past hits.
The album, from the Game Chops record label, covers music from the golden-era of Sonic’s Mega Drive heyday, with songs from Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Sonic 3 & Knuckles all receiving funky remixes.
It’s not just the original soundtracks that make their presence known on the album however, with most tracks cleverly incorporating sound effects from the original games as well.
Game Chops also plan to release a vinyl version of the ‘Sonic & Chill’ album sometime in the future.
You can listen to the whole album below or enjoy it on your streaming service of preference, it’s also available here on Spotify.
Gotta Go Put My Feet Up
Game Chops describes the album as ‘music from the SEGA Genesis’ “classic Sonic” era, Sonic R, Sonic Adventure, and Sonic Mania, as well as two original tributes composed by Funk Fiction’.
Featured composers on the album include Sonic musical legends Jun Senoue, Masato Nakamura, Tee Lopes, Richard Jacques and the SEGA Sound Team.

I’ve been listening to ‘Sonic & Chill’ as I write this post and it definitely ticks all the boxes for me, with my personal favourite track being Chemical Plant Zone. No surprise really as the original is one of my favourite tracks from Sonic 2.
It’s been a particularly good time for retro video game soundtracks of late, with classic tracks from The Legend of Zelda series also receiving a new vinyl collection and Square-Enix making thirteen Final Fantasty Piano Collection albums available on streaming services in recent weeks.
