I'm a big fan of modern remakes of old consoles. SEGA made some great mini versions a few years back, Analogue just launched their new Nintendo 64, and ModRetro has their infamous Chromatic for GAME BOY enthusiasts.
But, we NEOGEO fans have been left in the dust, literally if you consider the ammount collecting on our old consoles, right? Well, the time has come, the NEOGEO is getting a new, modern remake of their AES, being called the AES+ (Advanced Entertainment System).

The new NEOGEO AES+ is being reborn with high-quality design improvements, staying faithful to the original hardware, alongside quality of life upgrades such as HDMI out, DIP switches and overclocking starting at $249.99/£179.99/€199.99 with a planned release of 12th November 2026.
Gameplay on the NEOGEO AES+ is not achieved through emulation; instead, the console is powered by its legacy ASIC chips, re-engineered by modern standards to accurately replicate the original machine's
hardware and software. The system natively plays game software from both new and old game cartridges for an authentic retro gaming experience. Not emulation, not FPGA approximation, but true console reincarnation etched back into silicon, according to SNK.
Main Features
- 1:1 replica of the original console from the 90s.
- Unmistakable and uncompromising arcade-grade build quality.
- Hardware-faithful reimplementation with new quality of life features.
- No emulation - Powered by re-engineered ASIC chips.
- Compatible with new NEOGEO AES game cartridges and backward- compatible with original NEOGEO AES game cartridges.
- Low-latency HDMI output.
- Original AV output for CRT enthusiasts.
- DIP switches for language selection, overclocking and display mode selection.
- Permanent High Score saves (Memory Card required).
- Includes the wired (15-pin connector) Arcade Stick - also a 1:1 replica of the original.

SNK are also releasing this with authentic, modernised accessories and a bunch of new AES+ games too, making it an even more exciting time for NEOGEO fans. The announcement includes an Anniversary Edition of the AES+, which comes in White, a wireless controller, a wireless arcade stick, a new Memory Card and 10 new retro games with boxes and manuals to explore... I know, I need to change my pants too.
The wireless NEOGEO AES+ Arcade Stick is a 1:1 replica of the original stick, built to mirror the control panel found on SNK's legendary MVS arcade cabinets, connected by a 15-pin connector that connects to the arcade stick wirelessly. The same goes for the wireless controller, too, packed with the classic micro-switched thumbstick and 4-button layout.

The Anniversary Edition comes with a white arcade stick and a limited edition white AES+ cartridge of Metal Slug. This will be priced at limited.
For the biggest NEOGEO fans, SNK are releasing a bundle called the "Ultimate Edition" featuring the console, all of the accessories and all 10 game cartridges wrapped in limited edition packaging costing $999/£799/€899.
