How many of you can remember when Homer first got into the thick of it with those wasp cameras and chasing down Buzz Cola cans in Simpsons Hit and Run? It was an amazing game (one of my favourite Simpsons games, in fact) and the long-awaited answer to the question that none of us knew we needed answering – what would GTA be like if it used Simpson’s Characters? The game was incredible on the GameCube (my personal favourite) and of course the mighty PS2, but it never made it onto handheld devices.
Well, a dedicated gamer has been working to make a port for the PS Vita for a while now, and with this latest update, they’ve finally cracked it. Back in November 2023, YouTuber Zealous Chuck posted a video saying that a PS Vita port of Hit & Run was coming, but there was a lot of work to be done to get it to where he wanted it to be in terms of having full playability and that all-important ‘wow factor’. Now, eight months later, the project looks incredible and is running super smoothly with crisp graphics and cutscenes that flow like silk (oh yeah, I’m pulling out the strong similies today!).
You can hear Zealous Chunk talking about some of the updates in the Tweet above, and more importantly, you can hear how excited he is about how his hard work has paid off which is something that we love to see. The performance in the new update compared to the old gameplay footage is astounding, as is the map rendering too. The game is now 100% playable with save states working perfectly too, so there’s no chance of losing your game halfway through a session and having to start all over again.
Speaking on X, Zealous Chunk writes that the ‘Official Github Release Page for [the] latest update of Simpsons Hit & Run Ps Vita Port is now up’ for anyone who wants to take a closer look at the project. You can also check out the full video on the update below!
