Demakes never fail to get me excited. The retro gaming scene is full of people reimagining their favourite games at the moment, and some of the examples that we've been seeing of late have been incredible. The notion of games releasing on consoles that came out two decades beforehand still intrigues me, and getting to see titles like Resident Evil reimagined for the Game Boy Color and Squid Game heading to the DMG is both a novelty and a great gameplay experience.

Thanks to MizuSushi, we've now got a playable demake of Silent Hills P.T., a game that dropped back in 2014. The P.T. stands for 'playable teaser', though the full game, Silent Hills, was ultimately cancelled. The teaser itself is a bit of an enigma in the gaming world, as although it was developed by Hideo Kojima and Kojima Productions, it was made under the pseudonym of 7780s Studio. Guillermo del Toro also worked on the project - that's an accolade every horror game would love to have, right?

P.T. has rightly been heralded by many as one of the greatest horror titles ever made, despite being just a teaser, with gamers playing from a first-person point of view to make the action even scarier. You can only walk and zoom into objects as you solve puzzles, giving the game a feeling of a terrifying version of MYST. Oh, and there's a ghost that you can't defend yourself from that you need to avoid, just to make things scarier.

The demake definitely doesn't have that same pant-wetting vibe to it, but it's a clever remake that tries its best to reimagine the game as a DMG title. It's very much a work in progress, with some notes saying 'scary stuff coming soon' on them, and MiziSushi has added their own touch to some of the paintings, but it's a clever idea that has been executed well so far.

The Silent Hills P.T. demake works on Delta or can be played on your browser. Head to the official Itch.io page to find out more!
