ROM Hack Website CDRomance Has Announced It Will No Longer Be Updated

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but another ROM hack and Retro Gaming go-to website is no longer being updated in the usual manner. CDRomance has been a one-stop-shop for ROMs, translations, and hacks for years now, and Webmaster Spike announced the news of a change in the way they’re doing things in a recent post.

As you might have guessed with recent lawsuits flying around, the change is down to the website owners wanting to ‘benefit from reduced exposure’. According to the announcement, updates are now being hosted in the forum’s repository, with users needing to log in to access content. (Thanks Time Extension for the heads up).

That’s the only major change as of now, but considering CDRomance has already moved its files off-site and Romhacking.net is soon set to close its doors, I can’t help but have a bad feeling about the future of the ROM hacking community. CDRomance’s future looks uncertain as Webmaster Spike asks for donations to prevent them from spending all their savings on keeping the site running ad-free, and while I for one would hate to see it fall into obscurity, it all sounds a bit worrying.

As always, I’ll keep my eye on what’s happening with the site and keep you up to date as and when more news arrives. Fingers crossed it won’t be for a long while!
