I've been playing a lot of Rayman recently on the Modretro Chromatic after the re-release of the Game Boy Color classic. But before the armless wonder arrived on the GBC, it released on the PS1 and the Sega Saturn all the way back in 1995.
Rayman's creator Michel Ancel has announced that there is going to be a HD remake of that original game heading our way via Ubisoft, though the information he has given in an interview with Retro Gamer is slightly woolly. He states that he 'thinks there is a kind of remake on the way', though he doesn't know when.

Still, a remake of Rayman would be a fantastic shout for fans of the original like us. It worked with Croc, and I would argue that Rayman has more pulling power than Argonaut's snappy mascot, so I'm pretty sure people would lap up an HD remake of the original title.
NEWS: Series creator Michel Ancel reveals in a new Retro Gamer article that Rayman 1 will be receiving an HD rerelease! This follows previous reports of a "Rayman 30th Anniversary Edition" being rated. (I apologize for the new post; my prior post was incorrectly worded) pic.twitter.com/jzKlTg6on3

I do agree with Michel that an HD remake would bring some quality of life features like more checkpoints and possibly a rewind mode, just in the same way as the ModRetro Rayman release has automatic password saving so you don't have to keep writing them all down, features that would make Rayman appealing to younger gamers too.
Rayman has tonnes of fans around the world, and while we're still waiting for a brand new game, a remake of a classic will keep us occupied and happy. Keep your eyes peeled for more information as it arrives on my desk!
