The King of Red Lions taught Link some valuable lessons while moving around the ocean in The Wind Waker. If you've read my article about Eiji Aonuma's cel-shaded marvel, then you'll know that he put a lot of what he wanted to say to his son in the famous boat's narrative, yet another thing that makes me love this game. Apart from that wholesome fact, however, the King of Red Lions is one of the best supporting characters out of any Zelda game and wins over Ezlo the cantankerous cap, Tingle, or Princess Ruto any day of the week.
Prop maker & costume designer LittleJem is currently working on bringing the iconic boat to life in her new project here in the UK, and it looks incredible. The pictures on her Instagram show a life-size version of Link's 'partner in brine' that's still a work in progress, with LittleJem assuring that the whole process of building the boat will be uploaded to her YouTube channel next month for viewers to watch along with.
One fan on her Instagram has asked if the boat will also talk, with the creator simply saying 'maybe'. If her previous creations and work are anything to go by, then I wouldn't put it past her to add some choice sounds from the King of Red Lions into the build somewhere to make it seem even more realistic.
As a huge Wind Waker fan, I'm very excited to see this project come together. The detailing in the face is unreal, as are the grains in the wood and the colours LittleJem has reproduced. Everything about this model is perfect, and I would very much love to see it in the flesh (or wood in this case) when it's finished. I'm excited to see how the sail will come together, too, and if LittleJem is going to create a Wind Waker's baton to go along with it! All will be revealed over on Jem's YouTube channel, so make sure to keep your eyes peeled for that first episode!
