Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team Heads To Nintendo Switch Online This Week

For many Pokémon fans, myself included, Red Rescue provided us with the adventure we’d all dreamed of. We finally got to ditch the Pokémon Trainers and be a Pokémon ourselves, galivanting around with other Pokémon all on our own while trying to save the day. Heck, if you watched and loved Detective Pikachu, then this should be the first game you head back to, and now that Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue is heading to Nintendo Switch Online this week, gamers can play both at home and on the go with ease!

Red Rescue Team first dropped back in 2005 on the GBA, with its counterpart Blue Rescue Team dropping onto the Nintendo DS on the same day. The fact that these two games, partnered like the other Pokémon titles, dropped onto different consoles always felt strange to us. Still, Red Rescue Team was always my favourite (probably because I was a Pokémon Red kid back in the day), and the fact that it’s dropping onto Nintendo Switch Online this week is very exciting.

I’ve been replaying the original game on the Analogue Pocket recently, but seeing the title arriving on August 9th and joining the ever-expanding collection of Game Boy games up on the NSO service is amazing.

For those of you who haven’t played the game before, you answer a series of questions to pick the Pokémon best suited to you from the selection available. You’re a human turned into a Pokémon with amnesia, and with the help of a Partner Pokemon must complete missions, rescue Pokémon, and find items through dungeons while battling enemies.

It’s worth noting that you’ll need the Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack to be able to play GBA games – that’s the upper tier of the service that also offers access to N64 and Sega Genesis/Mega Drive games. Check out the Nintendo Switch Online service for more information if you don’t already have it, and if you do, then get ready for the 9th of August!
