Pokémon Dark Rising Cheat Code List (All Tested)

Though it’s a popular ROM hack of Pokémon FireRed with an original story, a common complaint from players about Pokémon Dark Rising is that its difficulty curve can be extremely variable. The issue is that standard Trainer battles feature opponents who are hugely ahead of the player, in terms of their levels. Given the ridiculously tough battles that Pokémon Dark Rising often throws at the player, we thought it was worth sharing the cheats we have used to make the experience of this ROM hack much more enjoyable.

It’s worth noting that all of these cheat codes will need an emulator which supports code entry; even better if your emulator can auto detect code types. Our recommendations for emulation, particularly for mobile devices, would be Delta or MyBoy!.

How to Use Pokémon Dark Rising Cheat Codes

This is the same advice that we’d give for any Pokémon ROM hack cheats: remember to always save your game before applying any cheats, and for the best, most stable results, turn off all other cheats when applying and using a new one. As there are so many different combinations of codes possible, we can’t guarantee they’ll all work together as intended. In fact, we often have trouble ourselves when multiple cheats are used simultaneously, so it’s worth turning off as many as you can to use the latest one you want. 

If you get stuck or the added cheats do crash or otherwise break your game, you can always go back to your save point. It’s important to remember to turn each added cheat off before saving again too, so that the chances of crashing or otherwise breaking your game, by adding a new code, are reduced.

Do note that numerous versions of Pokémon Dark Rising may be available; we tested the cheats below on the latest, complete version of the hack (known as the Kaizo edition), and found that some cheats published elsewhere aren’t working with this version of the game. It’s also worth noting that the title screen, even when using the Kaizo version of the ROM hack, will still only say Dark Rising. All codes on this list have been tested by us here at Retro Dodo, and each cheat’s section tells you how to make sure each cheat code functions as you need it to.

Infinite EXP

This will give you unlimited EXP when you defeat a Pokémon in battle. If you want to stop your Pokémon from levelling up at any point, just disable the cheat once more:

Infinite Items in PC Storage

To generate infinite items of a specific type in any in-game PC, use the Master Code and replace XXXX with the four-digit code of the item you want. For example, if you want MooMoo Milk, use the code 82025840 001D. Note that each item will continue to generate in extra slots in your PC when you withdraw them, so it’s best not to use too many different items, as it’ll quickly become difficult to get what you need from your PC storage:

This code works only in Pokémon Dark Rising, and gives you access to completely new, unofficial Pokémon! As with Legendary Pokémon, you’ll essentially be entering two separate cheats to enable this encounter, rather than a Master Code to alter for each Pokémon. First, enter this code:

The chances of encountering a Shiny Pokémon in normal circumstances are very low. So you can use this cheat to ensure that all Pokémon you encounter are Shiny variants:

Unlimited Money

We had trouble getting this code to work, but found that if you visit a Poké Mart with the cheat enabled, your money will then rise to the maximum 999,999 Poké Dollars:

Walk Through Walls

When enabled, you’ll be able to walk through most impassable walls or other objects in the game. Note that certain objects will remain impassable, such as the edge of the map and most water elements too, though you’ll still be able to enter and exit doors in the normal way:

A Note On Other Pokémon Dark Rising Codes:

We have tried using other codes for Pokémon Dark Rising, which we’ve seen elsewhere. However, in the version of Pokémon Dark Rising we played, these wouldn’t work properly for us (Stones and Master Balls in PC Storage, for example), so we have not included them on this list.
