PlayStation Announce Their 30th Anniversary With Goodies In Store For Fans

Can you believe that Sony has announced the 30th anniversary of the PlayStation? The PS1 came out in 1994, meaning that It’s only four years younger than me… a fact that has made me feel incredibly old. That’s 30 years of Croc, Spyro, Crash, Tomb Raider, Final Fantasy, and more, delving into new worlds and experiencing fantastic adventures from the comfort of our living rooms.

Still, even though I feel old, I can still take comfort in the fact that over the next couple of months, Sony is going to be treating us all to some new goodies and events in a momentous party that will undoubtedly trump Bilbo Baggins’ 111th birthday. They’re kicking things off with a free Gran Turismo game on the PS4 and PS5, a title that will pay homage to the incredible series (have you still got your copy for the PS1?) and hopefully coax gamers into checking out the back catalogue of games.

There’s also a Shapes of Play series of products coming featuring stress balls, a board game, and a set of magnetic toys. Out of all of these, the stress balls will probably help me out the most when I’m battling Heavy Draugr on God of War. Speaking of which (here comes a great link), we can also expect some epic digital soundtracks from God of War 1 and 2 and God of War: Ghost of Sparta. Twisted Metal is part of that release too, and Sony has said that more will drop between October and January too.

You don’t have to wait till October for the free goodies to drop, however, as there are free online multiplayer events on September 21st and 22nd. Expect to play a whole heap of new gamers on your favourite titles (maybe book both days off work so you can just game all day!).

I’m hoping that I’ll hear more about PS1-themed goodies heading our way too; perhaps the new Croc remaster will drop in this time period, or perhaps we’ll get a new collection of remastered games from the likes of Driver or Ridge Racer. Maybe I’ll go all out and get a Crash Bandicoot tattoo to celebrate too, who knows?

I’ll keep you all up to date with the new announcements as and when they drop, so keep your eyes peeled for more information as and when I get it. Don’t forget to check out the PlayStation Blog too for more information.
