We kicked off our book series back in 2022, after working on it for almost two straight years. It was a huge project, one that took blood, sweat and tears by myself and the incredible individuals at Lost In Cult.
We didn’t know what A Handheld History was going to become and it took the retro gaming community by storm, it was so successful that we partnered with Harper Collins to get this in book stores around the world, and it was even a #1 Best Seller on Amazon in the Video Games Art Books category for some time.
The success of our first book, alongside the help from Retro Modding‘s sponsorships has allowed us to create this second book, a much bigger book that dives deeper into the handhelds, video games and accessories between 1988 and 1995.
We are happy to announce that the production of the book is almost complete after working with talented journalists and many incredible artists to make it a high quality tomb that will last for many, many years.
Over the next few weeks our final book designs will be sent to print, giving us an estimated delivery time of June, meaning we can begin shipping as soon as our books have been printed, which is great news because that means you as a customer will be enjoying our book throughout summer and it will also be available to order for Christmas for new customers too!
Abram Buehner Lost in Cult’s Sr. Business Development Manager has been leading production, alongside Art Director Stephen Graham to design every single page of this book.
I may be biased, but the artwork in this is beyond mind-blowing, Stephen has crafted an impeccable team of designers who have created a huge selection of impressive pieces for you to consume, with not one single stroke from a robot, it’s all art from talented humans… how it should be.
A Handheld History: 88-95 will traverse the annals of time to uncover the stories behind both your favourite childhood titles and the tumbled curios which the medium forgot. We’ll meet the mavericks who gave them life, and we’ll trace their vision through the industrial context that defined this pivotal eight-year era.
So, join us on a voyage through the low-bit landscapes, chiptune sounds, and developer profiles foundational to portable play. Years of work has gone into this book series and we can’t wait to get it into your hands.
If you’re interested in snagging a copy you can pre-order on Lost In Cult’s website for £39.99, and you’ll be one of the first to receive this book, fresh out of production. As of now, this will be exclusively stocked at Lost In Cult, we have no intentions of bringing this to book stores or Amazon, so rest assured it’s the best way to get this book right now.
