How much would you like to find a super-rare arcade cabinet from Sega World and add it to your home collection? If you have a spare £40,000 (or around $53,000 if you're one of our readers from over the pond), then you could bid for the only official translated SegaSonic the Hedgehog Multi Cabinet Swing from the London Trocadero, where it was used by the public between 1996-99.
According to our friends at Time Extension, the arcade cabinet is being auctioned at Ewbanks UK Auction House and has a guide price of between £20,000 and £40,000. It's been snapped up by collectors over the years and borrowed by Sega for specific events. It even sat in the Sega Board of Directors meeting room for a while too - talk about a serious slice of Sega history!
For those of you who are thinking, 'what is SegaSonic The Hedghog' and this Swing thing all about, it's an arcade game where players control Sonic, Mighty the Armadillo and Ray the Flying Squirrel as they escape from Eggman. It's a trackball-controlled game that's viewed from a top-down perspective. I like the fact that it's trackball-controlled rather than using a joystick; it makes for fast spinning movements just like Sonic!
The official auction description on the Ewbank's website says that 'The cabinet has been fully tested and is in full working order. It comes with some optional/additional accessories: repro decals and two alternate/exchangeable control panels. The lot also includes an operational key with Sega-branded lanyard; a fantastic addition for collectors.'
