I know a lot of us have been wondering whether the remake will happen or not, a kind of 'will they, won't they' to match Ross and Rachel from Friends. The final nail has been put in the Sands of Time's coffin this week, however, after a major restructuring at Ubisoft and the cancellation of 6 games.
Shared by Pure Xbox, the Prince of Persia team have delivered a message to the world sharing their disappointment that the remake has had to be cancelled. They've stated that while they undoubtedly knew that the project had potential, they weren't able to make it to the standards that fans of the original deserved.

It seems that Ubisoft are putting the brakes on Prince of Persia for the time being, which, admittedly, is a real shame. I love that game with a passion and have fond memories of playing it on the GameCube as a kid. Still, their plan for moving forward seems to revolve around 5 specific groups called 'Creative Houses', focusing on different IPs and genres, and Prince of Persia is still in the mix alongside other fantasy titles like Beyond Good & Evil.
- CH1 (Vantage Studios) - Ubisoft’s largest and most established franchises - Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry, Rainbow Six.
- CH2 - Competitive and cooperative shooter games - The Division, Ghost Recon, Splinter Cell.
- CH3 - Live gaming experiences - For Honor, The Crew, Riders Republic, Brawlhalla, Skull & Bones.
- CH4 - Immersive fantasy worlds and narrative-driven universes - Anno, Might & Magic, Rayman, Prince of Persia, Beyond Good & Evil.
- CH5 - Casual and family-friendly games - Just Dance, Idle Miner Tycoon, Ketchapp, Hungry Shark, Invincible: Guarding the Globe, Uno, Hasbro.
Honestly, just seeing Beyond Good & Evil on that list has made me happy, but knowing that the Prince of Persia brand hasn't been scrapped completely is the icing on the cake.
Hopefully, Jordan Mechner will get to see a remake of Prince of Persia: Sands of Time at some point in the future, but for now, let's just hope that Ubisoft put the time into making Rayman and Beyond Good & Evil as good as they can be, and they don't fall foul of powerhouses like Rainbow Six. We want to see Jade and Pey'j on adventures again!
