N64 Games Are Getting An Upgrade Thanks To The Nintendo Switch 2

N64 Games Are Getting An Upgrade Thanks To The Nintendo Switch 2

Like many of you out there, I'm patiently waiting for my Nintendo Switch 2 to arrive at the front door for some Mario Kart World action and booting up the new GameCube emulator to play some Wind Waker again. It turns out that GameCube games aren't the only new addition to NSO, however, with Nintendo divulging that Nintendo 64 games on the platform are going to be getting new features on both the existing Switch and the Nintendo Switch 2.

If you're getting the new console on launch day, then you'll be able to take advantage of three new features - rewind, a CRT filter, and new control and view customisation options.

As you might have guessed, rewind will allow you to take the game back to a previous position for you to correct a mistake, whereas the CRT filter will give your games that iconic CRT look that we all know and love from playing on the N64 the first time around.

The view/change controls option is welcome news for those who want to assign actions to different buttons or sort out the inverted camera in games like Turok. As you can see from the video above, it's very intuitive and easy to map, and I'll definitely be tinkering around with it when it comes to games like Banjo-Kazooie.

If you're not upgrading to the new console, then you'll still get the control-changing feature on all N64 games on the original Switch. The CRT filter and rewind functions are for the Nintendo Switch 2 only, however. All of these new features will be implemented across both consoles from June 5th when the Switch 2 launches.

What do you think of these new features? Will a rewind function ruin the challenge of classic games or allow us to enjoy the action more? Do we need a CRT filter for nostalgic purposes? Let us know in the comments below!
