Metal Slug isn't just one of SNK's greatest creations or one of the best games for the Neo-Geo - it's retro gaming royalty. I love the fact that we have LEGO sets for the 'classic' characters like Mario and Sonic, but when I see LEGO Ideas sets coming for games like Chrono Trigger and Metal Slug, it excites me a lot more. They're sets for true retro gamers, made by retro gamers.

User MagicBrick, aka Italian designer Gabrielle, has tried to bring the energy of the Neo-Geo game to life in the most exciting way possible, capturing jumping characters, interactions, and tensions of the game in brick form. And just looking at the pictures, I can say they've nailed it.

The Metal Slug tank, key characters, multiple levels, foliage, buildings to hide in - it takes all of the elements from the game and makes them playable in a whole new format. And yes, this is a set I think that should be played with, albeit by adults who know what Metal Slug is and not kids who might think that this is a Tarzan playset.

As Gabrielle says, this 2,701-piece set isn't depicting a realistic war scene; it aims to capture the fun that we had from playing the very first Metal Slug game back in the 90s. It's bright, vibrant, and a set that you wouldn't be able to walk past without reenacting your own little battles, which is what every good LEGO set should make you do.

Gabrielle is no stranger to the LEGO Ideas page, already becoming a 10K Club Member with their Terarrium Ecosystem set. There's also a MagicBrick reenacting that is gaining traction with fans too, which I would love to see making it to shop shelves - Gabrielle knows how to make me hit that support button.

As always, I'll explain what happens with LEGO Ideas designs. creators have certain milestones they have to meet with regard to reaching certain numbers of supporters. If they reach a milestone, then the number of days they have to reach 10,000 supporters increases. Once they reach 10,000, their idea is put in front of the LEGO Ideas panel of judges to decide whether it gets put into production.

This Metal Slug set has reached 249 supporters in just 3 days, and while it has a long way to go to get to 10K, it currently has 422 days (well over a year) to reach the 1K milestone. You can show your support over on the official LEGO Ideas page for free - let's make this happen!
