A new ROM hack has brought colour to Mega Man IV 31 years after its original release, giving fans the chance to experience it in a whole new light! The ROM hack comes from Marc Max and Kensu Williams and adds a bunch of new features as well as working in original Game Boy Color hardware and via emulators.
I loved Link’s Awakening on the Game Boy DMG, but when the DX version came out, it added so much more depth to the game. Rooms had texture, the dungeons felt much more immersive, and the game almost seemed like a completely different title. I’ll always be a huge fan of the DMG, but if I have the chance to play any of its games in colour, I’m going to jump at it, which is why this new hack of Mega Man IV is so exciting!
Mega Man World IV DX brings a full-colour conversion to the palm of your hands as well as all of the slowdowns being removed. There’s a NES-style pause screen too as well as other features like being able to toggle charged megabuster recoil.
This hack is the final piece of the Mega Man colourisation puzzle for Marc Max and Kensu Williams, meaning all five Mega Man Game Boy games finally have the colour treatment they’ve always deserved. Check out the YouTube video below and the links in the video description for more details!
