There are so many Pokémon ROM hacks out there that we've played until our thumbs are sore, giving us tonnes of alternative adventures to experience while catching our favourite critters. Pokémon Unbound is a prime example of a ROM Hack that should have been an official Pokémon game, but it's very much still a Pokemon game through and through.
For anyone looking for that Pokémon feel with a massive twist to mix things up, however, theres now a set of ROM hacks with a very Mushroom Kingdom feel about them coming to an emulator near you.
As you might have guessed from the title of this piece, Mario Red and Luigi Green are ROM hacks based on Pokémon Fire Red and Leaf Green, but instead of catching Pokémon, all 151 characters from the game have been replaced with Mario characters. Can you imagine what it'll be like walking through some tall grass and a Wild Toad or a Wild Goomba running out and attacking you? I'm gonna hold out hope of Mewtwo being Bowser or Donkey Kong!
Hey everyone!

It's time for me to officially announce the ROM hack I'm working on: Pokémon Mario Red & Luigi Green!
All 151 Pokémon will be replaced with Mario characters, along with plenty of surprises! pic.twitter.com/VK6QDK1cFU
At the minute, we just have this image of the loading screens posted by the creator DogPond4, but work has begun on the ROM hack and I'm hoping we'll be receiving some more news over the coming weeks. I'm itching to see whether I'll be battling Wario in a gym full of Shy Guys! Keep your eyes peeled for more updates coming soon!
