LEGO Racers was an absolute classic, released in 1999 for PC, Nintendo 64 and PlayStation 1. This was one of the first proper party racers that I can remember enjoying with my dad and brother. Simple, effective and it took the LEGO universe to a new competitive level that kept 7-year-old me absolutely hooked.
Well, it's back with an unofficial recreation from a LEGO fan who has decompiled the game, built in a completely new engine and reignited it with new tracks, restored shortcuts, enhanced hazards and a full-screen 16:9 mode, turning it into a well-done remaster that can be played in your browser. It keeps everything that was classic about it, allowing you to "enhance" certain areas of the game in the settings. It has the classic build mode that lets you create a new character and a new vehicle for you to import into your races. It has circuit races that are more like a story mode, a single race, which is a one-off race, versus race, and time race.
It's unknown how much AI was used in the development of this, but that said, the game works very smoothly and adds to the ever-growing list of decompiled LEGO games. This news comes just after someone decompiled the classic LEGO Loco game and recreated it with a bunch of new features, so it's good to see classic LEGO games getting some love in 2026.
