Even though we're in 2026, Sega's old consoles are still getting a lot of love via the Retro Gaming community. It's not just the Dreamcast that's getting new games and ports - the Sega Genesis/Megadrive is still getting new titles thanks to the efforts of gamers dedicating time to preserving old and influential titles.
I've been reading this morning via Japanese website Renpou that the legendary Konami arcade game Yie Ar Kung-Fu has been ported to Sega's most famous console by budding developer André Azevedo.
If you haven't heard of Yie Ar Kung-Fu before, then it's one of the most influential arcade games that helped to shape the fighting genre. It arrived in arcades in Japan in October 1984 and was released worldwide in March 1985.

André has been using SGDK, the open-source Sega Genesis Development Kit, to port the arcade classic onto the Genesis. As he says in the post below, there are a lot of bugs that he needs to sort out, but he's shared the build for everyone to test out so that they can help to squash any potential problems.

I've been trying to port a retro arcade fighting game with SGDK. Called Yie Ar Kung Fu from Arcade, not NES.

While the game saw a release on the Famicom, the ZX Spectrum, and the MSX, it never made it to the Sega Genesis/Mega Drive. You might be thinking, 'why does it matter?', but that's precisely why I love ports like these. Keeping old games and consoles alive is what I love the most about my job - take the Dinosaur Planet recomp or Star Fox 64 being ported to the Dreamcast.
Game preservation is everything, and for someone who continually works in the past for a job, this is the kind of news that really gets me excited. I'll be checking out the Yie Ar Kung-Fu port this afternoon in greater detail; let me know your thoughts on it in the comments below!
