KFC Release New Tamagotchi Where You Look After A Chicken Drumstick

Eduardochi from KFC

I know this article title sounds like I’m currently in a fried chicken-induced fever dream, but this is 100% true. KFC has tapped into our love of 90s nostalgia with a new Tamagotchi in the shape of a chicken drumstick, but instead of looking after a lovable animal or even a chicken which would arguably make more sense, the character you have to keep alive is also a chicken drumstick.

Meet Eduardochi, a Tamagotchi where you look after Eduardo the drumstick, a pet that I would definitely be eating in a heartbeat if it were real. Working alongside creative agency PS21, KFC has brought their new character to life in a Tamagotchi that instantly takes me back to being a kid in the 90s and trying to keep my first Tamagotchi alive, which coincidentally actually was a chicken.

So what’s all this about? Well, according to DesignTaxi, the new Tamagotchi was given out over a 2-day period at a pop-up store in Madrid, Spain. It seems that if you want to bag an Eduardochi Tamagotchi for yourself, you’ll only be able to pick one up in Spain, with the toy being distributed across Spanish KFCs from December 3rd. They’re priced at €3.99, which is around £3.20 or $4.20.

I’m not going to lie, this is definitely weirder than McDonalds releasing their Chicken Nugget Tetris handheld, but there’s some method to the madness. Eduardo the Drumstick became a viral meme back in 2021 and has since become part of the KFC branding. There’s even a perfume made that channels the essence of the secret herbs and spices that make their chicken so tasty called ‘Eu D’uardo’. I don’t really know why people would want to smell like they’re a piece of chicken, but I’m kind of intrigued to check it out. There’s one thing for sure; it would definitely make me want to eat more KFC – what a genius marketing idea!
