Helldivers 2 has taken the gaming world by storm over the last few weeks, just like Palworld did a few weeks before that.
The main reason you won’t have heard about them here on Retro Dodo, however, is that… well, I guess the clue is in the name, really. They’re not retro, and we like to concentrate on the good old days of gaming past, fuelling our sense of nostalgia and clinging onto our childhoods for as long as possible.
The exception, however, is when clever gamers and videomakers create demakes or concepts of what demakes might look like on older consoles.
How many of you checked out what Palworld might look like on a Nintendo DS? That was an incredible little demake concept clip, and now thanks to Twitter user @getmadz, we can now see what Helldivers 2 might look like on a Nintendo Wii too!
Helldivers 2 – Family Friendly Mii Edition
Waving a Wiimote to perform stratagems might be fun, but I can imagine that in a room of other players, you might feel a little like Link in the Wind Waker and be at risk of taking someone’s eye out.
I love the part at the end where the player has to sort out the Wiimote in order to get the motion controls working – that’s the kind of carnage I don’t want while in a multiplayer match!
I miss the days when we used the Wii Zapper in shooting games, diving behind the sofa with a piece of plastic like I was Arnold Schwarzenegger in Predator. What I don’t miss, however, is scrambling around in drawers for AA batteries mid game – those were trying times!
I’ve seen lots of amazing demakes here at Retro Dodo over the years, and the Retro Gaming community never ceases to amaze me with their creative handiwork.
Until a modder makes an actual Wii demake of Helldivers 2 with Wii characters, I’ll have to make do with Link’s Crossbow Training and Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles for the time being!
