How often have you played Halo: Combat Evolved and thought ‘I could do a better job if I was actually in the thick of it instead of just sitting on the sofa holding a controller’? Well, there’s now a VR mod of the original game that lets you actually get involved with the action with motion controls. Get both hands up and push back The Flood through SteamVR and your original PC version of the classic Halo game.
The mod is available to download on GitHub, and as always, it’s worth noting that you’ll need a legally obtained copy of the PC game. You can always pick up a copy off eBay for less than £10/$10 so you have reliable software to base everything off, and you can find out all of the instructions on how to set up the VR Mod on GitHub.
This is the most convincing VR Halo game we’ve had so far, and like so many releases in the retro gaming community, it’s come from the fans who are craving the releases the companies won’t. It certainly looks like the ultimate way to play Combat Evolved, and I’ll definitely give it a go once my Original XBOX-themed 8BitDo keyboard is sat in front of my desk for the full Master Chief effect!
