Ever since Nintendo added N64 to their Switch Online service, people have been asking for GoldenEye 007.
In fact, many couldn’t understand how Nintendo would leave a classic like GoldenEye off the roster when the service was launched. Wouldn’t that be an essential addition?
It does make an appearance in the list of 10 Best Selling Nintendo 64 Games Of All Time, after all.
Back in September of 2022, Nintendo teased 007 for Switch at their Direct event. They even mentioned online multiplayer!
Well, now we know why it took a bit longer to bring us GoldenEye… they were actually working on improving it more than we expected!
GoldenEye 007 On Nintendo Switch Online
As promised, GoldenEye 007 is getting a full online multiplayer expansion.
Which just makes sense for 007. It is still one of the absolute best games to play with friends.
What we did not expect was for Nintendo to go in and modify GoldenEye so that we can enjoy it in glorious widescreen!
This is a very welcome improvement to the classic title, now that widescreen format is the standard of both the Switch itself and pretty much every television sold today.
Black borders are just something we live with as retro gaming fans, but it’s awesome that GoldenEye 007 will now take full advantage of that screen space.
This is not a drill, people. The wait is over.
And in true Nintendo fashion, they dropped the news on us just two days before go time.
The improved GoldenEye 007 can be played on the Nintendo Switch Online service starting January 27th, 2023.
