Gamer Gets Sonic 3 Movie Running On Nintendo DS

We’ve all had mates who have turned up with bootleg copies of movies they’ve bought or downloaded, but have you ever had someone turn up with a blockbuster movie that’s just come out in cinemas running on their Nintendo DS? I sincerely doubt it in all honesty; it’s very niche, and while we don’t condone piracy of any kind, it’s certainly interesting to see the iconic clamshell running a movie instead of touchscreen games.

An X user by the name of @pablothinghouse has posted a video of the movie playing on their Nintendo DS, and although the quality isn’t exactly 4K with Dolby surround sound, it’s impressive that the DS can cope with running it without exploding into a million pieces. Pablothinghouse has documented how they managed to get the film running on the handheld with other users looking to try and replicate it on their favourite emulators. Check out the video below to see Sonic and Shadow in action.

Sonic 3 has since smashed all expectations at the box office despite having some big sneakers to fill. It has reportedly made over $200 million since launching in December 2024 and could well surpass the earnings of the previous two films. I would absolutely recommend seeing it in the cinema as opposed to the DS however, but if Sega decide for some reason to go retro and bring out a UMD version for the PSP for me to buy, then I might be interested. I would say there’s more chance of seeing a hedgehog fly than that happening, but as we can see from the clip above, I would be wrong!
