The GB Compo is always a great place to find out new games from budding new developers, and while some are more advanced than others, there's always something interesting for us to sink our teeth into. We're not the only ones keeping a close eye too; the fact that companies like ModRetro are judging the competition, who let's not forget are releasing new Game Boy games for the ModRetro Chromatic all the time, means that the competition is a great place to showcase your talents and hopefully see your game become a reality.
One game that I've been playing recently is Fortune & Glory, which I'm surprised hasn't already been snapped up by Nintendo. It's the most non-threatening and wholesome game since Hermano, a game that also made waves as a competition entry, and which I gave a solid 10 out of 10 in my in-depth review.

Fortune & Glory has all the makings of a great Game Boy Color game and should 100% be the next title ModRetro considers for their Chromatic catalogue.
The game comes to us from VideoGameStoryTime. You play as a little mouse entering the ancient city of Gatopolis on an adventure to find buried treasure. Check out the official description of the game below!
'This is a story that is told in mouse homes around the world: once, our people lived in prosperity and freedom. Life was easy, as we were sustained by our greatest treasure. Then, the armies of the cat folk appeared. They burned out homes to the ground and destroyed our farms. Those who did not flee became slaves, building the mighty Gatopolis, the City of Cats. Legend has it that our treasure is still hidden somewhere in the Gatopolis, if only someone were brave enough to seek it out.'

In terms of gameplay, it feels very much along the lines of Mario, Croc, Hermano, Kero Kero Cowboy, and other 'cutesy' side-scrollers. Your mouse explorer is the least offensive character of all time, though you might get a little upset when you get an instant KO after falling on spikes between pits.
There are obstacles to avoid such as falling drips, raising spikes, and gaps between platforms. The aim of the game so far has been to find keys to move onto the next area, giving it a feel of King Tutti, the game that I used to play religiously on our Sky box back in the day.
It's all very smooth and slick with a great soundtrack; Fortune & Glory has all the makings of a great Game Boy Color game and should 100% be the next title ModRetro considers for their catalogue. I'm thoroughly enjoying playing it, and I hope you do too! Head to the game page to download and play, and don't forget to check out the other entries in the GB Compo too!
