Final Fantasy VI Reimagined Is An Impressive Remake Created In The SNES Engine

final fantasy 6 reimagined gameplay

ROM Hack fans and SNES lovers have hardly left their homes over the past couple of days thanks to a new release from DrakeyC that reimagines a classic and important entry in the Final Fantasy series. It’s the result of almost four years of FF6 modding with a whole bunch of new features that not only give another lease of life to this 30-year-old game, but completely transform it and provide fans with a wholly new experience.

“FF6 Remake, as created in the SNES engine” – that’s DrakeyC’s catchy heading to draw us all in, and it’s certainly worked. The gameplay has completely been reworked with newer scripts, a higher level of difficulty, new items and lore, as well as the addition of ultimate weapons for each character and new spells.

The script is a big part of DrakeyC’s changes, with a new narrative that ‘aims to be more technically accurate to the Japanese and have stronger character voicing’. It’ll promote a more natural playthrough and make dialogue between characters seem more casual and immersive for the player, something we can all get behind. The fact that there’s brand new story content that even spreads to individual NPCs is no mean feat, and the whole thing looks to have even more substance than before, even after cutting out unnecessary parts.

DrakeyC has even gone as far as reworking the character sprites so that they’re more in tune with the original concept art of the series. The colours are way more vibrant and stand out more on certain characters, and certain characters have a more unique look that gives them more precedence in the game.
