I know what you're thinking, and yes, this is real. As you know, I'm constantly on the lookout for demakes of games that make their way to older handhelds like the DMG and the GBC, but what I don't usually expect to find is a virtual version of a 90s toy made for my favourite Nintendo handheld.
Enter Rob51Design who, after being surprised that there never was a Bop It game for the DMG or GBC back in the day has just decided to make their own for the community to enjoy. And for that, I salute them, because it's a fun concept that has no other function than to bring back nostalgia and put a smile on our faces.
Bop It as a Game Boy game - it's not something you probably thought that you needed when you woke up this morning, but I think you'll be glad that you checked it out when you do. It's very simple - Bop It, Twist It, or Pull It just like the original game, using your D-pad to move between the different features. Gameplay speeds up just like the original, and you rack up a high score as you go.
I just handed this to my girlfriend to have a go, and it took her straight back to the 90s while also making her realise that she doesn't have the same quick reflexes she did back then (hey, we're all getting older!). A word of warning - the first command of 'Bop It' is just to introduce the game; it took us 7 goes to figure this out, so ignore that and just take note of the actions after that.
Ok, this isn't going to revolutionise the world or change gaming forever, but having it on Delta on my phone means I can get it out while with mates for some Pass It action just like we did when we were younger. Head to the game's Itch.io page for more info or to play it in your browser!
