I love it when secrets are uncovered from the games and toys of our youth. It still blows my mind that someone found an Easter Egg hidden away inside the Mothma Tamagotchi that the creators never told anyone about, and it's amazing that even after we think we know a game like Spider-Man 2: Enter: Electro for the PS1 inside out, something can be uncovered 24 years later to make us feel excited about it all over again.
A gamer by the name of David M, aka bobbyfan85 has uncovered a deleted scene from the game that was thought to be lost. Writing on his Instagram, David explains that 'Earlier today I read an article that said this "Spider-Man: Enter Electro" video was lost media. I knew I had it on one of my old hard drives, and sure enough I found it! Says I downloaded it on Oct 16, 2001. Glad I never delete anything!'
David downloaded the video in October 2001 when Activision uploaded it to their website. Luckily, he still had the hard drive to hand that he downloaded it on, and now, after uploading the video without the watermark, modders are working to create a version of the game with the cutscene inserted back in where it rightfully belongs.
So why was the scene deleted? Well, the game was supposed to have a boss battle on the top of the World Trade Center in America. When the September 11th attacks happened, Activision censored parts of the game that might cause distress, thus removing the cutscene you see in the video above. The game eventually came out on October 18th in the US and October 26th in Europe.
So there you have it, a slice of history that was thought to have been lost forever, brought back to the table by a gamer who never deletes everything. David, you are the ultimate hoarder, and we salute you for it!
