Fans of the classic Playstation video game franchise Croc are elated to hear that we have an HD remaster incoming in the near future!

The following Tweet from James Batchelor (Time Extension) received a confirming comment from Argonaut’s founder Jez San. So we know it’s officially official!

What Is Croc?

Croc Game Play

Croc is a charming and incredibly fun action platforming game that released on the Sony PlayStation, Sega Saturn, and Windows PC in 1997.

With style similarities with classics like Crash Bandicoot and Spyro, Croc is an often forgotten essential for the PS1 that we included in our list of underrated PS1 games.

With over 3 million copies sold on the PS1, clearly the fans voted with their wallets.

The follow up title, Croc 2, didn’t sell quite as well. And it also didn’t earn the series its trilogy.

But hardcore fans have been waving that Croc flag for 25 years strong.

In case the name doesn’t ring a bell, Croc’s developer Argonaut Games is also responsible for another historic game you may have heard of: Star Fox.

Surely we do not need to explain the level of street credit that gives them.

And like that game – Croc is bold, colorful, fun, and is a great example of mascot based 3d games from the early 64-bit golden era.

And we absolutely cannot wait to hear/see more about the upcoming HD remaster!

What Can We Expect From Croc HD?

One thing we can all probably agree on is that those early 64 bit graphics do not really hold up after so much time.

So a remastered version of a game like Croc will absolutely benefit the classic and give it new life in the modern era.

With the name using the “HD” tag, we are anticipating a remastered edition of Croc, not a full remake.

And presumably, the Croc HD remaster would be for the first entry in the Croc franchise, which is our particular favorite.

What would be best possible outcome is if this were a Croc 1+2 HD combo pack. But beggars can’t be choosers. We’ll take what we can get!

We made a list of the best Croc games of all time too, so you know the team here at Retro Dodo are wildly excited to hear this news.

Over twenty five years after its release, it’s a wonderful time for Croc to come to a whole new audience.
